A nonalcoholic take on the classic Zombie drink from tiki lore

After having a nonalcoholic Zombie at Jeff "Beachbum" Berry's Latitude 29 tiki bar in New Orleans, one of our wives insisted we try and make a Zombie mocktail to kick off Dry January.

Glass

Tiki Glass

Ingredients

  • 5 oz white grapefruit juice

  • 1 1/4 oz lime juice

  • 1 oz falernum syrup

  • 1 oz cinnamon-anise syrup

  • 1/4 oz grenadine

  • 1 dash nonalcoholic bitters (or Angostura if you do not mind a minute amount of alcohol)

Technique

Add all ingredients to a shaker tin with some pebble ice.

Flash blend for 5-7 seconds and pour into a tiki glass and add more pebble ice to fill.

Garnish

Lime Wheel, Cocktail Umbrella, & Swizzle Stick

Cinnamon-Anise Syrup

Infuse a cinnamon stick and 3 star anise pods into a batch of rich simple syrup for 20-30 minutes.
