The Old Absinthe House is a longtime New Orleans institution where the Absinthe Frappe was introduced in 1874. However, absinthe was banned from the United States due to prohibitionist efforts painting it as especially dangerous and accusing absinthe of having hallucinogenic properties. In 2007, the United States legalized absinthe once again and drinks like the Absinthe Frappe can return to their authentic roots. Plus it is an amazingly refreshing drink for the hot, humid days that New Orleans so often experiences.
