Cocktail #025-Creole
Hugo Ensslin's early 20th century ode to New Orleans cocktail culture in this Manhattan riff
COCKTAILMARDI GRASRYECLASSIC COCKTAIL
The Creole Cocktail is not really from New Orleans at all, but is New York bartender Hugo Ensslin's ode to the Big Easy. Think of this as a riff on the Manhattan.
Glass
Nick & Nora
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey (Sazerac would be the natural choice for this ode to New Orleans)
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1/4 oz Benedictine
1/4 oz Amaro Angeleno (or an amaro of your choice...the original recipe called for Amer Picon which is unavailable in the United States)
Technique
Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and then stir 30-45 seconds. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass and garnish.
Garnish
Lemon Twist
