Cocktail #002 - Trader Vic's Mai Tai
Celebrating #NationalMaiTaiDay with the specs for Trader Vic's original Mai Tai. One of the most iconic tiki drinks.
CLASSIC COCKTAILTIKIRUMCOCKTAIL
Despite several websites proclaiming June 30 as National Mai Tai Day, the Trader Vic's website explains that August 30 is the historic National Mai Tai Day, even using an official proclamation from the City of Oakland as proof. The Mai Tai was created in 1944 by Trader Vic himself and has endured as one of the classic drinks of the Tiki genre and has inspired countless riffs. The split base of funky Jamaican rum and the grassy rhum agricole make for not only a complex drink, but an inspiration for countless other variations using a variety of split spirit bases.
